The NYC Mayor's office has finally ordered a mandatory evacuation for Zone "A" on the Hurricane/Flood Evacuation map shown above. You can go here for a larger version. This evacuation order affects nearly 400,000 people. Shelters have been set up around the city, and you can go here to find one near your location.
While the above is certainly a good first step, I also believe that Zone B should be evacuated, and folks in Zone C should be ready to evacuate if necessary.
The storm surge that is expected with Sandy is unprecedented, and I believe many folks will be caught off guard unfortunately, especially due to the way this storm has been downplayed by local officials so far.
