Severe Weather Likely Much of MS / OH Valley Region into the Northeast Later Today...

Posted on 06:10 by shohan bella

Conditions continue to appear favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop across a rather broad area extending from the middle Mississippi Valley into portions of the Midwest, Ohio Valley and the eastern Great Lakes region today.

Above is the latest severe weather outlook from the SPC in Norman, OK.  Severe storms are forecast within the yellow shaded area on the image.

In particular, damaging winds appear to be the primary severe weather threat today, along with some large hail.  The highest risk of damaging winds appears to be taking shape across portions of the Ohio Valley, as shown by the red shaded area on the image below:

There is also a chance for an isolated tornado or two, especially across the Ohio Valley region (generally within the same area as outlined in red above).  Tornadoes are not expected to be a major threat today, however a few of the more organized storms could produce an isolated tornado, especially during the first few hours of initiation with any storm that is able to become well organized.

If you live across the severe weather threat areas for today, please remain alert.  Listen to NOAA Weather Radio, local media or another trusted source for the latest information.  Review severe weather safety and preparedness tips and be prepared to seek shelter immediately if threatening weather is observed or a warning is issued for your area.
