The remnants of Tropical Depression 7 have reorganized and become Tropical Storm Helene in the extreme southwest Gulf of Mexico, near the Mexican coast.
As of 4pm CDT, the center of Helene was located 90 miles East/Southeast of Tuxpan, Mexico. This position is about 160 miles Southeast of Tampico, Mexico.
Helene is moving toward the Northwest at 7 mph, and has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. The minimum central pressure is 29.65 inches of mercury.
Helene is forecast to make landfall along the Mexican coast by late morning or midday on Saturday:
Helene will produce heavy rainfall of 5-10 inches, with localized amounts near 15 inches across Northern portions of Veracruz, southern Tamaulipas and eastern San Luis states in Mexico. This will result in areas of flash flooding and mudslides in these areas.
